Class update

Image
Hey everyone! We here at Shooting Stars hope everyone is keeping well! Unfortunately we have some bad news... As everyone is aware the lockdown restrictions will lift from a level 5 to level 3 on the 1st of December. We were hoping the government would allow our fabulous students to come back to us but this is not the case. Our classes will have to continue online. Hopefully we will be able to see each other in person again in the new year and make the most of 2021 together. We will continue to argue the point that stage schools are an important part of society and with your help we will be back up and running in no time. Here is the guidelines given by the government: Sports Training Outdoors: Non contact training only in pods of up to 15 (for example: golf, tennis, horse riding, hunting, gaelic games, soccer and outdoor basketball.) There is an exemption for professional/elite/senior inner-county sports. Indoors: Individual training only. No training or dance classes (for example: no...

Preforming Arts Educators of Ireland

Image
The Preforming Arts Educators of Ireland have launched a new #Whataboutus campaign and it is amazing! They are supporting Jigsaw , the national center for youth mental health. Why not help them and support Jigsaw too by visiting Jigsaw.ie. There is a fundraising page set up by PAEI and the link is at the end of this blog channel if you want to donate. As we said in the last blog, this year is all about giving!  If you want to view this amazing video click the link below! https://fb.watch/23NqcWUQ4N/ Here are some words from the PAEI themselves: The pandemic has highlighted the adverse effect on our students mental health, this was evident in the many 100s of letters we received from students nationwide. Please share from PAEI's social media pages using the following hashtags when posting the shared video from PAEI: #Whataboutus #singing #dancing #music #acting #drama #Jigsaw #Mentalawareness #Clarity4creativekids

Fundraising

This is the time of year where we give rather than take. It is especially important in these hard times but a cure is in sight! In June 2020 I started running. This was for the TriAthy.  Then in October I done a 10km run for the Join Our Boys charity.  I have now decided to do the twelve days of Christmas where you run a minimum of 1km over 12 days. We normally do a danceathon for Chare's Wish Foundation charity but due to the current circumstances that isn't a possible option at the moment. Hopefully we will be able to do our danceathon soon and raise even more money for this great charity. Our goal is 500 euro and we are already more than halfway there @€373. Keep up the great work!!! I'd love you to help by donating a little over on our facebook page @Shooting Stars Athy stageschool. Any donation big or small is appreciated by everyone here! Wishes don't stop during the outbreak and neither do we here at Shooting Stars Athy Stageschool.

10 Years!

Image
This year approaches our 10th year of Shooting Stars Athy Stageschool! Congratulations to our teachers and students who have stuck with us from the beginning and those who joined our crew in recent years to create such a wonderful and caring environment. We have made some wonderfully successful productions and took part in many competitions and will continue to leave our mark on the acting industry. We are pleased to announce that we have a star named after us! Now when you look up to the sky there is a piece of our stageschool family looking down on us! We will soon be able to admire and celebrate the good times again! But until then, let this shooting star guide us through the dark times.

Zoom classes!

Image
Covid-19 has taken centre stage. It doesn’t want to give us a chance to express ourselves through singing, acting and dancing and has forced us to postpone our classes until the 1st of December. This will not stop us!! We have organised weekly zoom calls that take place instead of our physical classes! (See first post for times and prices). There will be three 40 minute zoom classes, one singing, one dancing and one acting so you still receive all the entertainment you would get with us in person from the comfort of your own home! We are also a lot more active on our social media accounts! We ask our students to send us videos of them singing. They are then edited and put together to show the talent that our wonderful students have regardless of not being together! Follow us on our Facebook page to see this great artwork @Shooting Stars Athy Stageschool.  New-comers are always welcome! Just text us on Facebook and ask for the zoom class link! Stay safe everyone!

Acting Exam

So you want to be an actor/actress? There's no better place to start acting than Shooting Stars, whether you're six, sixteen or sixty everyone deserves the same opportunity! Our acting classes are run by our drama teacher Nicole. Within the last few years we have been developing the acting skills of people by teaching them improvisation, script writing, acting techniques and what the business is all about through the use of fun and exciting games. Recently we have developed a new part to our drama classes, exams. These aren't just like any other exam. These exams are fun and engaging. They test the skills you have learned over the period of time with our drama teacher. What skills? The first part of the exam will be an examined oral. This is where you will be given a piece two weeks prior to the exam and will be asked to learn it and recite it on the day of the exam, without help from the script. The student will be marked on their acting skills as well as their knowledge ...
